The second of two men convicted in a carjacking that took place in Haliburton Village last December has been sentenced.
Last week Glenn Hie who was 48 at the time of the crime was found guilty of possession of stolen property and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

For possession of property obtained by crime valued at more than $5000 he was given a six-month conditional sentence 18 months’ probation and a victim surcharge of $200. For dangerous operation of a vehicle he was given a six-month conditional sentence – to be served concurrently – as well as an additional 18-month probation and a $200 victim surcharge. Hie is also banned from driving for three years.
Charges of robbery with a weapon and theft of a motor vehicle laid against him were dropped.
In June accomplice Dustie Upton 51 at the time of the crime pled guilty to robbery with a weapon possession of a prohibited device and driving while disqualified
On the robbery conviction Upton was sentenced to 729 days in jail but given credit for 264 days for the 176 days of pre-sentencing custody he’d served leaving 465 days remaining to serve.
For the robbery he was also ordered to pay $1630 in restitution a $200 victim surcharge and provide a DNA sample.

On the conviction for possessing a prohibited device Upton was sentenced to 90 days in jail to be served concurrently as well as ordered to pay a $100 victim surcharge.
For driving while disqualified Upton was given a 60-day sentence to be served concurrently as well as ordered to pay a $100 victim surcharge.
He will have a two-year driving suspension and will be on probation for three years.
On the evening of Dec. 27 2015 an employee of the Foodland in Haliburton was carjacked at knifepoint as she got into her vehicle following her shift.
The carjackers were later apprehended by police in Bobcaygeon.
