The Haliburton County Echo and Minden Times are finalists for several Better Newspaper Competition awards this year.
On Monday, Feb. 14, the Ontario Community Newspaper Association released its list of nominees for the annual provincial newspaper awards competition that recognizes “outstanding work.”
The Haliburton County Echo was nominated for five awards, including general excellence award in its circulation category. Sue Tiffin is nominated for three writing awards in the feature writing, health and wellness, and heritage categories. The Echo and Times’s humour columnist, Steve Galea, has been nominated for Humour Columnist of the Year in the competition.
The Times, the Echo’s sister paper, is a top-three finalist in the editorial writing category for an opinion piece by former editor Chad Ingram; for best feature photo by Darren Lum, and Kim Wark has been nominated for Cartoonist of the Year in the competition for her Kwarky series.
First, second and third place will be announced during a virtual presentation held Friday, April 29.
