Addyson Parish wins gold at Track and Field Championship

Addyson Parish has won gold in triple jump at the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championship this year. The championship was held in Calgary, Alberta from Aug. 9 to 11. Addyson also participated in the 4x100m relay and the 80m hurdles.

“It was wonderful. I made a bunch of new friends from across Canada,” said Addyson.

“Triple jump is my favourite,” said Addyson. “I don’t need to care about going right when the gun blows. The other girls are also really nice.”

With runners, they leave after the race. Addyson says that one of her favourite things about triple jump is waiting for her turn. This gives her an opportunity to chat with the other athletes and make friends.

Addyson says that she would like to be involved with sports in the future as a career, although she is not sure as to what part yet.

“Addyson certainly played her part with her commitment and the work ethic she brought to each practice, never sitting idle.  She is a very coachable young athlete and keen to take constructive feedback,” said Karen Gervais, head coach and coach of running and hurdles with the HHSS track team.

Stacey Parish, Addyson’s mother, says that she is beyond proud of her daughter and that she works very hard. She is well deserving of her accomplishments.

The Parishes would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Legion for organizing the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championship and for assisting with organizing Addyson’s flight and stay in Calgary. The Parishes would like to thank Karen Gervais, Ginny Marsden, Russ Duhaime, Walter Tose and Al Hough for their involvement and support with the Track team at HHSS.
