Boat catches fire on Head Lake in Haliburton

Firefighters from the Haliburton Fire Department responded to a boat fire on Sunday July 14 around 5 p.m. in Head Lake in Haliburton village.

A father and daughter were on the boat when the fire started fire chief Mike Iles said. A passing boat picked them up and brought them to shore safely.

Three firefighters worked to put out the blaze from aboard the fire department's boat first with fire extinguishers and later by spraying water using a fire pump.

What was left of the vessel is resting in Rotary Beach off of Park Street. Firefighters on land worked to contain the debris with floating booms.

The Ministry of the Environment has also been notified.
