Update: 'Hold and secure' lifted at schools youth arrested

Dec. 9 2016

Schools in Trillium Lakelands District School Board have reopened following a 'hold and secure' this morning.

Due to a "generalized threat" schools throughout the board were locked with no one coming in or leaving the buildings while police investigated.

According to a release from Bracebridge OPP a 16-year-old male from Gravenhurst was arrested and has since been charged with mischief and uttering threats. The release says the threat was made via Twitter just after 9 a.m. Friday.

"The tweet was made to the Trillium Lakelands School Board and as a result all Trillium Lakelands Schools both elementary and secondary were put into a 'hold and secure' in order to ensure the safety of students while police investigate" the press release says.

Around 11 a.m. the school board tweeted the 'hold and secure' had been lifted.

Police say there is no threat to school safety.
