To the Editor
“Changing the Metaphor” is a perfect headline for an important editorial which explores Alanna Mitchell’s new book based on the cancer experience of local philanthropist John Patterson. As a cancer survivor of twenty years I often think of my experience and share the insights in Malignant Metaphor. I came to realize in an intense way that a diagnosis of cancer doesn’t open a battle or fight but as the book suggests a dance. And believe me the survivor isn’t the “lead” in that delicate dance. I also would like to shine a spotlight on Princess Margaret Hospital with their amazing surgeons oncologists nurses dietitians and other team members who treat cancer with world class treatment modalities and good old Canadian kindness and respect.
