Haliburton County’s grocery stores have been caught up in the national shopping frenzy spurred by concern over COVID-19.

Starting late last week toilet paper and hand sanitizer began flying off the shelves of stores around the county.

Steve Todd owner of Todd’s Independent in Haliburton said they’ve noticed sales “well above average” since March 12. Paper products water cleaning products and non-perishables have been particularly popular.

Todd said product comes in almost daily and that shoppers should heed the provincial government’s advice and practice “normal grocery buying habits.”

“There is not much of a need to stock up on items as stated by the provincial government” he said. “The inventory levels are good on most products and will continue to come in regularly at this point.”
