The Red Hawks track and field team travelled to Kingston Thursday and Friday to compete at the OFSAA East Regionals meet. While we eluded most of the storms Hawks were faced with more hot and humid conditions and some very stiff competition as many Eastern Regionals records fell over the two days from May 31 to June 1.

Alex Little set a new school record and personal best in the 800m. His time of 2:08.52 fell four hundredths of a second shy of fourth place and qualifying for OFSAA. Alex did earn the school record in the 800m which will replace Shawn Walker’s midget boys 800m school record of 2:13.47 set in 2016. Little also ran sixth in the 400 metres matching his time from last week.
Rebecca Archibald set a new personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 10.07 metres for a sixth place finish. Rebecca was also ninth in the long jump persevering through shin splint pain to complete her events.
Isaac Little bettered his own school record in the steeplechase by one second and set a new personal best and school record in the junior boys 3000 metres.
Little took off 19 seconds of his COSSA time to run 9:53.59 superseding Sean Keaney’s 2003 record of 10:04.09. Isaac was eighth in this event.
Desi Davies threw 34.88 meters in the midget boys discus to capture eighth place.
Nigel Smith jumped a new personal best in the triple jump landing in tenth place with a mark of 11.22 metres.
Sterling Nesbitt’s leap of 4.69 metres in the midget girls long jump put her in fourth place and broke Joan Barker’s 1962 school record of 4.62 metres. Sterling was the lone Red Hawks athlete that moved on to OFSAA this week at the Pan Am Centre in Toronto. The midget girls long jump was the very first event of the meet and took place at 3 p.m. this past Thursday.
A shout out to all the relay teams that ran in a torrential downpour – especially the senior boys team who still ran a faster time than last week in these conditions!
And to every athlete: you represented Hal High with pride determination sportsmanship and showed awesome Red Hawks spirit supporting each other!
Your individual accomplishments were truly bolstered by the support and encouragement of your teammates and the collective drive towards improvement through hard work. The coaches are proud and honoured to have coached this team.
