Taylor Donaldson loved to read and really loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
A student at Wilberforce Elementary School Taylor had just turned 12 when he died suddenly in a car accident on April 19 2015.
Now Taylor’s memory will live on at the school through a cozy nook dedicated to him in the recently revitalized library.
On Dec. 15 Wilberforce Elementary School staff parents students and graduates gathered to officially open the Taylor Donaldson Cozy Corner which is decorated with characters from his favourite TV show comfy chairs and a plaque with the inscription “This Cozy Corner is dedicated to Taylor Donaldson Cowabunga Dude!!”
The library located in one of the school’s portables was recently renovated and is now more inviting.
The revitalization was done over the summer months said school principal Elaine Fournier.
“We definitely wanted to make sure that as part of that renovation we had a special spot because we have a special spot in our heart for your son he’s always with us” said Fournier.
The Cozy Corner includes a rack of books that were dedicated by Taylor’s brother Isaiah an 11-year-old student at Wilberforce Elementary School.
Taylor’s mother Laura Fideau thanked everyone for coming during an emotional speech.
Last week marked the first time Fideau had seen the library and the Cozy Corner and she was grateful for the tribute.
“I feel very very loved” she said. “It’s great they’re helping to keep Taylor’s memory alive.”
The school has also created a Taylor Donaldson Leadership award in memory of the former student which is given out at the annual Grade 8 graduation ceremony to a graduate.
Last year’s recipient Chaz Whitehead was in attendance at the library unveiling.
Fournier thanked those who contributed to the renovation and Cozy Corner.
