The Bancroft I.D.A./Red Eagle Family Campground midget B girls hosted the always determined Cold Creek Comets in Bancroft on Sunday afternoon.
The Jets challenged the Comets in their most physical and gritty effort of the season. Tori Shpikula put the Jets on the scoreboard early in the first period with a tenacious effort to chase down a loose puck beat the Cold Creek defender and then fooled the Comets net-minder with a weak angle shot that snuck between the post and the tender. Both teams pressured the other squad the rest of the game trying to find another scoring marker but solid defence and stingy goaltending kept the score 1-0 in favour of the Jets. Katie Hoover earned the shut-out win (her sixth of the season) as Bancroft stepped up their physical play and used their body contact to take away the ice from the Cold Creek attack. Great effort girls in this hard fought tilt!
The win keeps the Jets with an undefeated record at 7-0-2 (seven wins and two ties) and first place in their eastern loop with 16 points. The Jets hosts the Ennismore Eagles on Saturday Nov. 19 in Bancroft at 6 p.m. and then travel to Lindsay on Sunday Nov. 20 at 5:45 pm to face-off against the Lynx in their first meeting of this season. Keep up the focused efforts girls as we gear up for our Kitchener Fall Fest Tourney the following weekend of Nov. 25 and 26.
