Let’s go out and about in April. I am definitely going out and about in April on my personal spring fling and with so many choices in and around the Village; it seems I will be very busy! From fun fundraiser dances to walks and special outdoor events spring is everywhere. The Haliburton Village BIA is busy ordering flowers and new brackets for our poles so that we can have more street banners than ever before. Spring fling means the Haliburton Junction Skate Park will be the scene of happy engaged kids!
The youth of this community are working tremendously hard with the support of local organizations businesses and individuals to develop a variety of fundraising initiatives that will get the skate park rebuild project started this spring. The BIA has renewed its commitment to provide financial support for our skate park!
Looking ahead the BIA will be promoting CTTT (Come To Town Tuesdays) and holding our annual spring sidewalk sale.
What does your spring fling look like? Perhaps you are planning to attend the Haliburton Legion’s Facelift Fundraiser or the 5th Annual Haliburton Documentary Film Festival at the Northern Lights Pavilion. Both are taking place on April 9 as is Open Mic Night at the Museum. The Haliburton Refugee Sponsorship Community Fundraiser hosted by Rhubarb and Boshkung Brewery is taking place on April 10. Did you know that there is a Squash House League in April at the Highlands Squash Club? On April 13 the Friends of the Library are hosting a Lunch & Learn with author Wayson Choy and the Folk Society is hosting the Crooked Brothers who are performing on April 16. Razzamataz Kids’ Shows are back again presenting “Queen of Colours” on Sunday April 17. Then there is Earth Day on April 22!
It’s a great opportunity for an outing and maybe an outdoor spring clean-up too. Complete your Friday Earth Day by shopping and dining locally. Then on Sat. April 23 you can enjoy an evening of entertainment with local band Custom Blend at the Haliburton Community Support Services Fundraiser Dance at the Legion. The Haliburton Highlands Outdoor Association is holding a Family Fun Day at the Fish Hatchery on April 30. Also on April 30 you can visit the Haliburton Highlands Museum and take in the Simply Pure Bath and Body Workshop where you can learn firsthand how to make natural body butter. OK I am getting a little overwhelmed. April is my out and about month but with all these choices and my volunteer commitments I am starting to get tired just thinking about it.
No worries I can do this. I will remain strong and I know I will have to push myself a little. I know the end result will be worth it and I am certain to enjoy spring flinging. Small town life is truly chock full of wonderful things to do. I hope to see you out and about this month! But wait! There is one more important item to share. Please look for the new Recreation Directory. It will be distributed with County Life on April 21 and will feature spring/summer recreation and leisure activities offered throughout the county. There are some new and exciting activities listed. You will be sure to find it an amazing resource and planning guide for your out and about life!
