The Haliburton County Echo Minden Times and County Life newspapers were honoured to win several awards in the Canadian Community Newspaper Awards announced on Friday.
The Echo placed third in its circulation category for the Best All-Round Newspaper.
The Echo’s sports section took the top prize for Best Sports Coverage in its circulation class.
The Echo’s story “Students work to stop bullying by sharing their stories” by Sue Tiffin placed third for Best News Story.
Tiffin’s feature piece “Welcoming the Wisos” also placed third in the Best Feature Story category.
Jenn Watt’s editorial in the Echo “We need to listen” placed second in the Best Local Editorial category.
A feature on the first cars in Haliburton County by Sue Tiffin and published in County Life took home third in the Best Historical Story competition.
Darren Lum’s photo of badminton player Ben Schmidt placed third in the Best Feature Photo competition.
The Echo’s sister paper the Minden Times received a first place for Best Spot News Photo Coverage for Darren Lum’s image of Michael Bainbridge pulling his daughters through flooded streets during the village’s state of emergency last year.
The Times also received third place for Best Feature Series “Flooding sends Minden Hills into emergency” written by Chad Ingram and Sue Tiffin.
