The Haliburton TimberMart / Haliburton Hockey Haven Sports Camp Highland Storm Novice rep team travelled to Humphrey on Saturday to battle the Muskoka Rock. After five minutes Muskoka Rock put one in the Storm’s net. Evan Perrott then took a shot on Muskoka that rebounded off the goalie and Max Rupnow quickly picked it up and fired it in the net. Muskoka Rock put another goal past the Storm before the end of the first period.
The Highland Storm completely dominated the second period. Isaac Trotter tried to set up his linemates with some nice passes in front of the net. Luke Gruppe stole the puck from the Rock in the neutral zone and charged at the net. Perrott took a pass from Rupnow and evened the score. Playing short-handed Rupnow won yet another faceoff and moved the puck down the ice through several Rock players to put a shot past the goalie. Matthew Scheffee Henry Neilson and Trotter demonstrated excellent teamwork with fast passes. Perrott took a pass from Ethan DeCarlo and put it top shelf in the Rock’s net. Fifteen seconds later Perrott took another shot on the net again but Rupnow got the rebound goal. Henry Neilson took possession in the offensive corner and fired it to Scheffee in front of the net who put the sixth point on the board.
Early in the third Muskoka Rock got a breakaway but goalie Carter Braun stopped the player in his tracks. Another pass from Rupnow to Perrott earned Perrott a hat trick. Rupnow then received a pass in front of the net to earn himself a hat trick. Muskoka got a third goal before Perrott took a pass from Gruppe and Easton Burk for his fourth goal of the game. Jack Tomlinson and Jaxen Casey both hustled back to prevent shots on the Storm net but also managed to make some nice shots on the Muskoka net. Muskoka stole a last goal before the end of the third but the Storm still shone with a 8-4 victory.
On Sunday Nov. 11 the Haliburton Timber Mart/Haliburton Hockey Haven Sports Camp Novices took on the Woodville Hurricanes at the A.J. LaRue Arena in Haliburton. The first period was full of fast action play at both ends but the sharp goaltending of Carter Braun helped hold the game scoreless.
The second period started off just as tight until the Hurricanes scored to make it a 1-0 game. The Storm fought back hard and with aggressive forechecking in the corner Max Rupnow turned over the puck hooked one around the net and scored unassisted to tie the game at 1-1.
After some great third period penalty killing Ethan DeCarlo and Jack Tomlinson passed it up to Isaac Trotter who popped one in for a Storm lead of 2-1. With 6:07 left in the game Trotter passed it up to Neilson who raised a back handed beauty over the goalie and into the net to finish the game off 3-1 for the Highland Storm.
The Novice rep team plays their next game on Saturday Nov. 17 against the Parry Sound Shamrocks at the A.J. LaRue Arena.

The Storm played well but unfortunately they lost 8-1. Their goaltender Ethan Dobson played very well even if the score doesn’t show it. And the single goal was scored by Addison St Cyr and assisted by Kadin Card.

On Friday Nov. 9 the Pepper Mill Steak and Pasta House Dollo’s Foodland Highland Storm Bantams hosted the Newcastle Stars. The Stars were fast to open the scoring but the Storm came back with a goal by Dylan Keefer assisted by Cooper Lloyd and Nick Phippen. All tied up going into the second the Storm got the go-ahead goal scored by Keefer assisted by Kyan
Hall and Jackson Wilson. The Stars came back with another to tie it up but the Storm took control scoring three more in the second goals scored by Keefer assisted by Phippen. Hall assisted by Hunter Winder and Lloyd and Phippen assisted by Winder to put the Storm up 5-2.
Kaine Brannigan scored the lone goal in the third assisted by Gage Hutchinson and Phippen and the Storm win 6-2. Another solid effort between the pipes for Darian Maddock. The Bantams hit the ice on FridayNov. 16 in Minden at 7 p.m. to take on the Elmvale Coyotes.

The Pharmasave Midgets LL 1 team faced off against the Almaguin Ice Devils on Remembrance Day. Sam Hoenow opened the scoring for the Storm and got his second goal of the season shortly after the first faceoff. Jake Sisson and Brenden Newhook also found the net giving the Storm a commanding 4-0 leading heading into the second period. Hoenow got another goal for the hat-trick and the Storm defence stood up beautifully in front of goaltender Nate Miscio to kill off an Almaguin two-man advantage and take a 5-0 lead into the final frame.
Paul Turner scored early in the third followed by Newhook’s second to make it 7-0. Tim Turner scored converting a nice pass from Jayme Coltman; Newhook completed the hat-trick and Hoenow with his fourth gave the Storm a convincing 10-0 win and a shutout for Nate Miscio. The Pharmasave Midgets will be playing again on Nov. 18 when they take on Parry Sound in Minden at 3:30.

On Saturday Nov. 10 the Home Hardware Peewee LL team travelled to Huntsville to take on the Otters. Storms Alex Hendry took charge of the ice scoring at the seven-minute mark assisted by Weston Bowker. Huntsville responded with a goal a minute later. Nathan Harrison gained Storm another point at five-minute mark with the Otters replying with almost immediately. Harrison kept the pressure up with another goal assisted by Wyatt Raposo.
With only 38 seconds left in the first period Cayden Russell scored a goal assisted by Harrison and Raposo. The Otters started the scoring in the second but Storm’s Hendry put another puck in the net assisted by Bowker and Emery Bagshaw. Huntsville charged our net with three more unanswered goals making final score of this exciting game 6-5 for the Otters. Come out and watch the Walker’s Home Hardware Peewee team next Saturday when they take on Canadian Tire Peewee team at 2 p.m. in Minden.

The TD Canada Trust LL Atom team had a double header this Saturday in Haliburton against South Muskoka. It was a puck battle back and forth in each end when Tavia Harris was able to break the play against Muskoka and pass the puck to Ethan Rowe and onto Logan Reid to score the game’s only Storm goal. The final score was 6-1 for Muskoka. The player of the game went to Kamauhl Casey-Russel.
For Game 2 they once again faced off against South Muskoka. The team battled hard in both the defensive and offensive zones. Reid was able to find the back of the net with his goal being assisted by Casey-Russel in the third during a power play. The final score was 8-1 for Muskoka. The player of the game was Eric Bird. Come out and cheer on the TD Atoms as they take on G.J. Burtch Construction Atoms next Saturday at 1 p.m. in Minden.

The Bancroft IDA/Park View Dental Midget Girls Jets team held their Hockey Day this past Saturday and also hosted the Peterborough Ice Kats. The Jets withstood the early pressure applied by the opposition in the first half of the game and then started moving the puck well with some crisp passing which resulted in a tie game of 2-2 in the end.
The first period was scoreless. Early in the second Gabby Burnett stole the puck from behind the opponents net and passed it out in front to Haley Goulet who released a quick wrist shot under the bar past the Ice Kats goalie.
With 1:15 remaining on the clock in the third Hannah McMann jumped on a rebound off the board from Burnett. McMann then carried the puck into the slot and scored bottom left corner.
Chloe Burnett stood tall in net for the Jets giving her team a chance to get back in the game.
The coaches bench staff players and parents would like to thank all of the sponsors who helped in making Hockey Day a success. Sunday afternoon saw the Jets travel to North Frontenac to take on the Napanee Crunch. Although the team outchanced Napanee the end result was another tie 1-1. No goals were scored in the first period. In the second Liv Martin was able to get the puck in a scramble in front of the net and tap it in with her back hand. Gabby Burnett got the assist. Once again Chloe Burnett had a solid game net minding for the Jets. The team’s next home game is Sunday Nov. 18 at 4:30 p.m. at the NHCC against the West Northumberland Wild.

On Nov. 10 the Highland Storm LL Peewee Canadian Tire team hosted South Muskoka CC Tatham in Haliburton.
The Storm started the first period off strong gaining the first goal scored by Ethan Megrah-Poppe-Poppe assisted by Carter Stamp giving the Storm a 1-0 lead. Before the end of the first South Muskoka came back with two goals making it 2-1 going in to the second. South Muskoka continued to come strong scoring another goal in the second period and one more in the third period making the final score 4-1 for South Muskoka.
On Sunday Nov. 11 the Highland Storm Canadian Tire Peewee team travelled to Bracebridge to faceoff against Parry Sound Gibson H&C.
Again the Highland Storm came out strong with the first goal of the game scored by Nathan Guild assisted by Haiden Bird and Jamie Crowe. Unfortunately the Storm could not hold down the lead as Parry Sound came back hard. The game ended with a 6-1 score for Parry Sound.
Shout out goes to the Highland Storm defence players Jamie Crowe Carter Stamp Andy Lippolis Nathan Morrison and Jacob Mantle for trying hard to keep the puck out of their zone along with Carson Simms with his 49 saves over the weekend.
The Highland Storm Canadian Tire Peewee team’s next game is Saturd ay Nov. 17 in Minden against the the Highland Storm Walkers Home Hardware Peewee team.

The Ridgewood Ford/Cottage Country Building Supplies Atoms spent the Remembrance Day weekend in the Ottawa Valley for the annual Pembroke Silverstick tournament. Scheduled for three games to be played the Storm hit the ice at 11 a.m. Wednesday against the Russell Warriors.
This bigger quicker team proved to be a challenge potting four unanswered goals that we couldn’t come back from. Into Saturday our early game versus Kanata was a much closer pairing with the Storm defence keeping their own zone clear and giving our forwards a chance to solve the opposing goalie. A much needed goal by Austin Latanville assisted by Caleb Manning and Josh Scheffee brought us to a 1-1 game headed into the third period.
Storm penalties added up in this our second game proving difficult to get back on top short handed following a second Kanata goal leaving the Storm at a 2-1 deficit at the final horn. Our third and final game was played back at the Pembroke Memorial Centre against the Ottawa West Golden Knights. Despite the Storm’s efforts Ottawa West managed to keep our Atoms off the scoreboard until Jace Mills walked in on the left side banking a soft shot off the goalies skate and across the goal line. Further penalty killing was required to keep the Ottawa lead to two with the final score of the game of 3-1. The Storm is back for Friday and Sunday games at the A.J LaRue arena this upcoming weekend. Come out and support our Atoms as they work on getting another win in their regular season play.
