Minden man dies after being struck by vehicle

Police responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on Dec. 24 just before 6 p.m. on Highway 35 in Minden. The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The man was identified as Terrence Bradley 26 of Minden. The investigation is continuing.

On Dec. 26 police received a call just after 10 a.m. of a collision on South Wilberforce Road in Highlands East. A man operating a small utility tractor was reversing out of a driveway when he collided with a passing pick-up truck. The 73-year-old driver of the tractor was airlifted to a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Police charged a Dysart et al man with impaired driving and having too much alcohol in his blood after responding to a single vehicle collision New Year’s Eve.
Police say they got the call just after 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 that there was a white pick-up truck that had left the roadway on Riverside Drive in Haliburton into trees. Once they got to the scene they discovered the driver had been drinking and took him to the detachment in Minden for further tests. They subsequently charged a 21-year-old man. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 7. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week.

Between Dec. 18 and Jan. 1 Haliburton Highlands OPP responded to 200 calls. Investigations ran the gamut from landlord/tenant issues to threats and trespassing. There were 36 vehicle collisions seven of which involved deer. Officers conducted 37 RIDE programs.

On Dec. 19 just after 10 p.m. police were called to a report of a car in the ditch on Buckhorn Road south of Gooderham. They found a man in a blue car in the east ditch. While speaking to him police determined he’d been drinking and arrested him at the scene. The man was taken to the Minden detachment for further tests. Police also seized what they suspected was marijuana.

A 62-year-old man from Highlands East was charged with having control of a vehicle while impaired having too much alcohol in his blood while having control of a vehicle possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana careless driving and having open liquor in the car while having control of a vehicle. The man is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on Feb. 7. He received a licence suspension for 90 days and his car was impounded for seven.
