Midnight Madness to take over Haliburton on Friday night

Music dance delicious food and amazing deals will be filling Haliburton’s downtown on Friday Aug. 3 for the annual Midnight Madness street party.

One of the summer’s most anticipated events this year performances by Custom Blend Gord Kidd and Friends Bex in Motion and Heritage Ballet Dancers will entertain audiences.

“There’s really something for everyone at Midnight Madness” says David Zilstra publisher of the Haliburton Echo which runs the event along with the Haliburton BIA.

“There will be live music along Highland Street balloons for kids amazing outdoor board games and sales at the local stores in town. And of course the fire department’s popular beef on a bun” he says.

Highland Street closes at 6:30 p.m. in order to set up for the event which runs from 7 to 11 p.m.

Professional hula hoop entertainer Bex in Motion whose real name is Rebecca Zelewicz is returning to Haliburton this year. The Toronto-based performer uses lights and fire to brighten the night – and a bit of comedy too.

“After grabbing some dinner in town don’t forget to leave room for ice cream” Zilstra says. “The Echo will be scooping banana splits and giving them out for free starting at 8 p.m. Find us in the middle of Highland Street in front of V&S.”

Outdoor board games provided by MacArt Studios will be on Highland Street for everyone to enjoy.

Gord Kidd and Friends will be performing in front of Walkers Home Hardware and Custom Blend will be in front of Shoppers Drug Mart starting at 8 p.m.

Midnight Madness was started by the Haliburton Echo 36 years ago. As usual the newspaper will be offering discounted subscriptions from 7 to 11 p.m. at the office at 146 Highland St. One-year subscriptions to the Echo or the Minden Times are $36 ($10 off the regular price). Two-year subscriptions will be $70 ($22 off the regular price). Three-year subscriptions will be $96 – more than 50 per cent off the newsstand price.
