Haliburton’s annual downtown street sale Midnight Madness is cancelled for 2020 to help maintain a safe shopping experience during the coronavirus pandemic.
The event which has been a summer staple since the 1980s will be taking a hiatus this year and back again in 2021.
“It was a difficult decision to postpone such a popular event but health and safety is our first priority” said David Zilstra publisher of the Haliburton County Echo which runs the event with support from the Downtown Haliburton BIA.
“We want to encourage people to continue to support local businesses which are modifying their operations to ensure COVID-19 protocols are being observed.”

The Haliburton Echo’s subscription deal typically offered on the night of Midnight Madness will be offered this year as usual but subscriptions will be taken over the phone. Keep an eye on the pages of this paper in the weeks to come for details.
