One of the sayings at Christmas is “it is better to give than receive.”
It was certainly true at McKecks Christmas Day. Karen Frybort and her volunteer team supplied and served a free turkey dinner for about 80 people who were alone for the day. There were groups couples and individuals. The meal was well presented plentiful and delicious. It was a joyous occasion as people greeted each other and listened to soft Christmas carols in the background. The volunteers were cheerful and organized so that everyone felt welcome.
I was seated at a table with a couple that I had never met. It turned out that they were cottagers that lived just down the road from me who wanted to meet new people as they plan on retiring here. The conversation was great and we learned that we knew some of the same people. Our day was so cheerful and bright.
I also learned that McKecks had delivered 90 meals to the hospital just before we arrived at noon.
Again it has already been said that Haliburton is such a giving community. This was another example.
We are so thankful and blessed all year round.
