Local riders have golden performances at Kawartha championship

The Red Hawks snowboarding team took 24 riders to the annual Kawartha snowboarding championship on Thursday Feb. 16 at the Sir Sam’s Ski and Ride in Eagle Lake. They captured two team golds an individual gold silver bronze and a team bronze.

Individually the Hawks’ Hunter Francis led the boys with a convincing win beating second place rider Spencer Byles of Fenelon Falls Secondary School by close to three full seconds after two runs.

Dakota MacDonald finished second in the girls field finishing with a combined time of 69.97 after two runs. Hawks teammate Sydney Churko who finished with a time of 70.14 was third.

The girls team (Dakota MacDonald Sydney Churko and Mia Quigley) finished first in the team competition while the boys finished first  (Hunter Francis Keagan Gilliam Logan Roylance Glenn Bagg and Abe Churko) and third (Lucas Haedicke Jake O’Neill Zak Shantz and Jack Merrifield) in the team competition.

The COSSA snowboarding championship is scheduled for Wednesday Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. at Sir Sam’s. Note; event subject to change.
