June is yet another great Highlands month that begs your participation. The Haliburton Home and Cottage Show starts things off on June 3 4 and 5. With 150 exhibitors the show will certainly be the place to see the latest for your home or cottage and to meet your friends and neighbours.
The Haliburton Rotary Club is holding its annual Lobsterfest on June 11 and tickets for the Rotary car raffle are also on sale now. Peter thinks he would look great in that car but blue is my favourite colour so it could be destined to be mine. June 11 is also the day the Rails End Gallery is hosting Oil Painting En Plein Air For The Absolute Beginner. Moving along Saturday June 18 just might be the most the jam-packed village day so far this year. First we will be roaming the Trash ‘n Treasures Community Yard Sale at Head Lake for great buys. The Friends of the Library are having their Giant Book Sale and that means a bag full of books for summer reading. You cannot beat these book prices. Sales continue to mark the day on Highland Street the location for the annual Haliburton Village BIA Sidewalk Sale. Come and stroll and buy and eat and meet! The Haliburton and District Lions Club is holding the annual Kamps 4 Kids Barbecue at a new location in the Village Square (Barn). This barbecue will see all the funds raised dedicated to sending kids who deserve it and need it most to local camps. And of course the Lions Super Cash Calendar Raffle Tickets will be available for you to purchase. The 18th is definitely a “come to town” day! And should you wish to a drive just a little out of town to the Fish Hatchery you can take in the Family Fly-Tying and Casting Workshop for beginners.
I am very excited to be able to tell you more about the new partnership for our annual fall festival ColourFest 2016. The Municipality of Dysart et al and the Haliburton Village BIA are joining forces and hope to bring you the best fest yet but help is needed. We are sending out a call for interested community groups and individuals to join the ColourFest 2016 planning committee. The initial meeting will take place on Wednesday June 8 at 1:00 p.m.. Please contact Dysart et al recreation co-ordinator Andrea Mueller at 705-457-1740 amueller@dysartetal.ca or me at 705-457-3768 haliburtonbia@mail.com. No committee means no ColourFest and we don’t want to lose our festival; we want to make it better than ever before. We can promise you only a few but effective meetings and we will certainly welcome your ideas suggestions and participation. What do you think would make ColourFest 2016 the best fest yet?
