Friends of the Rail Trail holds first event in two years, invites public for Sunday Ramble

by Vivian Collings

The Friends of the Rail Trail (FoRT) returned with a public event for the first time since January 2020 with its It Takes a Village event at SIRCH’s Bistro on Sunday, March 6 in Haliburton.

It marked the start of FoRT’s 15th year of “connecting community and rail trail.”

The event was a community supper, drawing 25 people and was sponsored by the Haliburton County Development Corporation. It was FoRT’s first public gathering since January 2020, said FoRT chairwoman Pamela Marsales.

Just over two years later, FoRT are eager and excited to celebrate their 15th anniversary with trail gatherings, events, and activities throughout the year. When it comes to trail gatherings, FoRT will start with a Sunday Ramble walk on March 27, beginning at 11 a.m. at the town docks in Haliburton. It is one of 15 planned this year.

FoRT welcomes new volunteers, and their community events and gatherings are open to anyone who would like to participate.
