By Chad Ingram

The supervisor of the young Hydro One employee who was killed on the job in Haliburton County last year will be back in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on Jan. 16.

On Thursday March 21 2019 the OPP were called to the scene of an accident involving forestry work near Coleman Road. One Hydro One employee a 25-year-old man from Sydenham Ont. was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Three other employees of the utility were treated for injuries and released.

The Ministry of Labour conducted an investigation and according to the ministry in September charges were laid against an individual as a supervisor and employee under two sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Those charges are for failing to take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker contrary to S.27(3)(c) of the act and for failing to work in a manner that did not endanger other workers contrary to s.28(2)(b) of the act.

The supervisor made a first court appearance on Nov. 28.

Hydro One has said it cannot comment on the matter as it is before the courts.
