The Haliburton Highlands branch of The Therapeutic Touch Network of Ontario held two events in the county the first week of May to celebrate the inaugural CARE150 Therapeutic Touch  Awareness Week in conjunction with Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations.  There were 52 events hosted across Ontario and interest spread to other provinces as the momentum grew.

The first event was held in the Highlands on May 4 in Wilberforce at the Lloyd Watson Community Centre partnering with the Play and Learn group from the Ontario Early Years Centre. Interested parents were shown a few simple hand movements that are effective in helping children relax reducing pain and improving sleep.

On May 6 the second event was held in partnership with the Haliburton County Public Library – Dysart branch. Practitioners were on hand at both events to supply information about the practice of therapeutic touch to answer questions and to give complimentary sessions.
The events were both well attended and many sessions were given.  Feedback has been excellent and a lot of interest was shown about therapeutic touch.  The enthusiasm is contagious!
