The following are brief reports of items discussed during an April 28 meeting of the Haliburton Highlands Health Services board.

HHHS is preparing for the implications of the assisted-death legislation that was introduced by the federal government this spring.

“We have started some conversations about what that’s going to mean for us” interim CEO Carolyn Plummer told board members.

The legislation which was tabled by the government earlier this month would be restricted to those 18 or older facing “foreseeable death” and would include a mandatory 15-day “reflection period.”

HHHS has changed its employee recognition practices moving from an annual staff recognition day to a number of events planned throughout the year. These include a spring pizza party a summer barbecue long weekend ice cream fall tea party and Christmas brunch.

Plummer told board members that “Coffee with Carolyn” a series of town-hall-style meetings encouraging staff members to provide input on strategies was well-received.

“We got a lot of feedback” she said.

HHHS is celebrating a number of milestones in 2016 including the 20th anniversary of the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation the 50th anniversary of Hyland Crest and the 80th anniversary of the original Haliburton hospital.
