Despite a loss in the COSSA semi-final to North Hastings High School this past Tuesday there’s a lot the Red Hawks girls’ field hockey team can be proud of this season said head coach Steve Smith.
“The girls should be proud of their overall improvement as a team and their development. They finished in last place last year and turned it around to finish first in the Kawarthas. All the coaches are proud of the entire team for their hard work and dedication” he wrote including coaches Ginny Marsden and Vanessa Prentice.
The comment came via text a day after the team lost 2-nil in the COSSA semi-final to Bancroft’s North Hastings Highlands High School while playing Peterborough on Tuesday Oct. 22.
The defeat came after the two teams were knotted 0-0 after time expired forcing a double-overtime and had to be decided with a five-person shootout.
Smith said the Hawks did score in the second overtime period but it was “called back.”
