The following is a list of cancellations or scheduling changes made due to safety concerns regarding the spread of coronavirus or COVID-19. If you have a cancellation you'd like to have included on this list please email jenn@haliburtonpress.com. This list will be updated regularly.
County-wide
Public schools – following March Break all publicly funded schools in Ontario will be closed for two weeks. Schools will be closed from March 14 to April 5.
Ontario Early Years Centre/Early On – in-school programs will not be operating during the closure of publicly funded schools.
Compass Early Learning & Care – all programs will not be operating during closure of publicly funded schools (re-opening April 6.)
Post-secondary – Trent University has suspended classes cancelling events and travel at its Peterborough and Oshawa campuses while Fleming College has suspended classes at all Fleming College campuses and learning sites from noon Friday March 13 until Tuesday March 17 with classes offered in online or alternative delivery formats for the remainder of the winter season. Campuses and college buildings remain open.
Haliburton County Public Library has cancelled March Break programming but library branches will remain open. HCPL will be providing fine amnesty on all overdue items effective immediately (if you have overdue fines on your account or you are bringing back an overdue item those fines will be waived).
HHHS Community Support Services – the following are cancelled until further notice:
– Diabetes Self Management Education Workshops
– Balanced Fitness/Falls Prevention
– Adult Day Program
– Grief Support Group
– Social Recreation Drop-In Programs
– Diner’s Clubs
– Cancer Support Group
– Gatherings of volunteers community education sessions etc.
Community Kitchen will be suspended until further notice. SIRCH is working the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit to determine how they can operate the Community Kitchen in a way that will support local food banks and agencies while ensuring the safety of volunteers.
CAPC/CPNP groups will be suspended until further notice. SIRCH will be providing supports for participants in other ways during this difficult time.
Sleeping in Cars fundraiser planned for sites in Minden Haliburton and Wilberforce for March 27 is cancelled for this year. Organizers say they will regroup for 2021.
Haliburton Concert Series has cancelled the concert it was going to present on Sunday May 3.
Algonquin Highlands
Community centres in Stanhope Dorset and Oxtongue Lake are closed until further notice which includes the Dorset Recreation Centre fitness centre. Programming and events held at these centres have been cancelled until further notice.
Meetings by committees of council are suspended until further notice with the exception of the committee of adjustment.
Dysart et al
As of March 14 the Abbey Retreat Centre will be closed for two weeks.
Abbey Gardens has cancelled March Break programming.
Public skating and shinny to take place on March 15 and March 16 at the A.J. LaRue arena has been cancelled.
Haliburton Highlands Land Trust – the Up Close with Ontario Wildlife event scheduled for March 14 at the Haliburton Fish Hatchery has been postponed.
The Tourism Stakeholder Group meeting planned for March 18 at Abbey Retreat Centre is canceled with a plan for the group to reconvene April 18.
Highlands Little Theatre – Vintage Hitchcock scheduled for March 31 to April 4 has been postponed. Anyone with tickets can return to place of purchase for a refund. HLT is investigating options for re-mounting the production.
The Haliburton Highlands Chamber of Commerce has postponed its Business and Community Achievement Awards Gala planned for April 4.
HHOA Wild Game Dinner planned for March 21 is cancelled.
Those Other Movies has been advised to postpone their documentary film festival Doc(k) Day scheduled for April 4. Purchased tickets will be refunded in that manner they were bought. April’s movie Knives Out is cancelled and a decision on reimbursement will be announced shortly.
Rails End Gallery is closed. Artwork from its current exhibition Water will be shared virtually at facebook.com/railsend
The sixth annual Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Curry Chevrolet Buick GMC Limited and scheduled for April 10 has been cancelled.
Haliburton Highlands Music Festival has been cancelled this year.
Highlands Festival Singers have cancelled all remaining rehearsals for the spring term as well as the spring concert. The choir executive will be in touch with current choir members regarding music return via email.
Cardiff – Line Dancing to start March 16 has been cancelled.
Cardiff – Sign Making Fundraiser for Relay for Life on April 4 is cancelled (according to Municipality of Highlands East).
Wilberforce – Haliburton Highlands Health Services have cancelled their upcoming Falls Prevention and Adult Day programs in Wilberforce until further notice (according to Municipality of Highlands East).
Wilberforce – Curling at The Wilberforce Curling Club has been canceled for the remainder of the season and the men's bonspiel at the end of the month has also been cancelled.
The Highlands East Municipal Office and all sub offices (Building Department & Environment Department) will be closed for public entry effective immediately (Monday March 16) until further notice. A ll council meetings and advisory committee meetings scheduled during this time period will be postponed. M unicipal staff is available by calling the municipal office or sub offices. However they encourage patrons to use their online resources available to conduct business with the municipality.
Minden Hills
Archie Stouffer Elementary School has cancelled a public Read-In scheduled for March 13 at the school. The school is still open for classes.
The Friends of the Library have postponed the HCPL special book sale scheduled for March 14 at the Minden Branch.
The March 19 Casino Rama bus trip sponsored by the Minden Legion has been cancelled.
The Minden Lions Club have cancelled their upcoming spaghetti dinner scheduled for March 20.
The Haliburton County Horsemen's Association has cancelled an AGM planned for March 22. The club is looking for input on dates for the coming season. Visit the Facebook page or contact haliburtonhorsemen@gmail.com.
Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary's volunteer and sponsor meet and greet planned for March 22 is postponed will be rescheduled later in April or May.
Cook It Up Tuesdays at Molly’s Bistro Bakery will be suspended until further notice. There will be no lunch offered on Tuesday March 17 Tuesday March 24 or Tuesday March 31.
U-Links Celebration of Research planned for March 28 is cancelled. Organizers are looking into ways to showcase the work of students online.
Calorie Counters meetings in Minden have been cancelled until further notice.
Fish and Fowl dinner for Bark Lake Cultural Developments planned April 18 in Gooderham is cancelled.
Also:
Kinmount – St. Patrick's Day Community Potluck Supper and Concert with Rhythm and Grace March 17 has been cancelled.
Special Olympics – all local sport programs competitions fundraisers and any related activities are suspended until March 31.
Minor hockey – all practices games and tournaments cancelled for the rest of the season. (Ontario Minor Hockey Association)
