Have you ever wanted to create the gown you’ll wear to your wedding; the suit you could wear to explore Jupiter’s sixth moon or the armour you would wear to survive the earth’s apocalypse? If so there’s an opportunity for you. Fashion Fallies the avant-garde wearable art event will once again be returning to Haliburton this November and they have just released their call for entry which for the first time has a theme Our Future is Fearless.

“We thought a theme would give people some focus for their creations” says Sandi Luck Fashion Fallies organizing committee member.

“We don’t expect everyone to be creating space suits. The theme is very much up to interpretation. The future can be tomorrow or in 10 years or 100 years” says Luck.

Anyone can participate in the event whether you are a professional artist a student or just someone with a fun and creative idea. All mediums are welcome including paper wire yarn and recycled materials. Accessories single piece or entire ensembles are welcome too.

“Your item can be a wearable or sculptural object it just needs to be able to be worn down a runway” says Luck.

To launch the call for entry fellow organizing committee member and jewelry artist Erin Lynch will be doing a Steam Punk jewelry workshop on Saturday June 15 in the common room at the Haliburton Dysart library branch between 1 and 4 p.m. The cost is $50 and all proceeds will go toward the event.

“It’s the same day as the Trash and Treasures sale in Head Lake Park. Look for items in the morning to incorporate into your piece for the workshop in the afternoon” says Lynch.

Fashion Fallies is a popular Arts Council event and will be held Nov. 15 at Haliburton School of Art + Design. Tickets will go on sale in the fall.
