Things came together at just the right moment for the owners of The Great Haliburton Feed Company who said on Friday Jan. 12 they had found a new location for their shop.
Co-owners Maureen Adams and Charles McAleaney will be moving their store which sells pet food and supplies farm and wildlife feed and houses stray cats and other animals looking for adoption to 37 Mallard Rd. off Industrial Park Road by the end of February.
It was just last week they had announced to the community they would have to close because a suitable location could not be found.
Adams said she contacted Glenn Evans owner/operator of Cedar Winds Build-Design who had recently purchased the Mallard Road building (formerly CRS). It turned out that his plans for the building had changed and he was looking to rent it out.
Evans said he had intended to use the location for Cedar Winds Build-Design but has since decided to move into the recently vacated location at 171 Highland St. where the Forest Store used to be.
The feed company intends to continue taking in stray cats in the new location Adams said.
“That’s the only point [of staying in business]” she said.
Adams called the move “serendipitous” and said she was pleased that she and McAleaney could continue on with their business which was established in 1995.
Over the years they have taken in cared for and adopted out thousands of cats. In 2014 their Industrial Park Road location burned down and they have been in a temporary location on Hops Drive since then.
