Police are in the early stages of an investigation into a single-vehicle collision that killed Belleville man Gerald Pope 64 on Wednesday May 25.

According to a press release just after 6 p.m. Haliburton Highlands OPP was called to the accident on Highway 118 near Hadlington Road in Highlands East. Haliburton County Paramedics and the Highlands East fire department also responded to the call.

Police say that the car was headed eastbound on 118 west of Hadlington Road when it left the roadway and struck a rock cut.

Pope was pronounced dead at the scene.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with the investigation.
