A cake featuring the Dysart 150 logo was enjoyed at the sesquicentennial celebrations on Jan. 7. The logo was created by Haliburton County artist Darby Bayly and features a log to highlight the history of forestry and beauty of the area. The log also features 150 rings one for each of Dysart's years of existence.

Dysart gets year of birthday celebrations started

The Guinness Book of World Records states that the oldest person to ever live reached 122 years however on Saturday Jan. 7 the municipality of Dysart et al surpassed that number with a birthday party celebrating 150 years.

The township was incorporated in 1867 and its first council meeting was Jan. 7 of that year.

The winter party kicked off a year of events in honour of the milestone with food beer music a movie and more at the A. J. LaRue arena this past weekend.

A historical film created by Haliburton’s Kim Emmerson was debuted at the event showcasing some of the landmarks in England that are tied to Haliburton’s past.

Hundreds were entertained by a fire show put on by renowned entertainer Brant Matthews from Toronto.

Festivities will continue on throughout 2017 with a big party planned in July.
