Curlers hurry hard to raise money for health care

By Jenn Watt

The Haliburton Curling Club was bustling with activity on Saturday as 64 curlers took to the ice to have fun and raise money for Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation.

In the end about $4270 was brought in during Curl for Care which is sponsored by Todd’s Independent Grocer.

HHHSF executive director Dale Walker said having sponsors allowed the foundation to bring in more money for health care in the community. Todd’s Independent provides staff for lunch and dinner set up cooking clean up raffle table prizes and prize baskets. The Haliburton Curling Club does not charge for the use of the facilities.

The money raised goes to priority equipment.

Walker also thanked John Boore of Stone House Wines for donating prizes and wine for the event; Algonquin Painting for donating Senators tickets (won by John and Lynn Childs); HHHSF chairman Peter Oyler (who was the winner of the bicycle); volunteers Bob MacNaull tournament organizer; and Anne MacNaull and Tom and Kim Merrimen for their volunteer work. The public school girls’ team won the bonspiel. See next week’s Echo for a photo of the team.
