Plaid shirts and cowboy hats dotted the crowd at the Haliburton Legion branch on Saturday March 19 for the second annual Lions Club Chuck Wagon Dinner and Hoedown.

The smell of meat pie and baked beans wafted onto Mountain Street along with music from Gord Kidd and Friends all in the name of raising funds for the community.

“The more money we make the more money we give” said Lion David Mills.

More than 100 people attended the event spending $25 for the meal and music and more money still on auction items.

The Chuck Wagon Dinner is the only traditional fundraiser put on by the local Lions Club said Betty Mills chairwoman of the event.

The Lions got the idea from the Omemee club Betty said.

“We have an awful lot of country [in Haliburton County]” she said. It was a perfect fit.

The Haliburton Lions Club has 27 members with two more coming in.

Money raised through the Lions’ regular barbecues or at the hoedown go right back into the local community.
