The following are brief reports of items discussed at the June 22 meeting of Highlands East council.
As renovations continue for the Lloyd Watson Centre council approved a budget of more than $20000 to have a new hood fan designed and installed in the kitchen of the community centre June 22.
In a presentation to council property supervisor Jim Alden said although a new hood fan is not in the approved budget for the project the existing hood fan is now too small for the stove in the kitchen and needs to be replaced.
Sections of the roof will need to be removed in order to install the fan. Alden said now is the time to complete the project while renovations to the roof are already under way.
The size of the hood fan means it will need to specially designed. The design and construction of the fan is going to cost $15695 with installation including gas fitting an electrician and a spray system will cost about $5000. The money hadn’t been previously budgeted for but council said they would find the money in the recreation reserve fund.
“We can’t do without it” said Alden. “If they’re going to do cooking classes they’ve got to have it.”
The expense was approved unanimously.
