Community Support Services reaching out to help

Although many programs delivered through Community Support Services have been suspended as the community takes precautions against COVID-19 some services are still being offered and CSS is working with the community to find new ways to help.

CSS which is a department of Haliburton Highlands Health Services is reminding the public that it continues to offer Meals on Wheels emergency response systems and friendly visiting/security checks. Its program teams including mental health GAIN supportive housing hospice/palliative care continue to intake and support clients.

"We recognize that many community members particularly seniors might be facing challenges with routine activities – such as grocery shopping going to pharmacies and generally staying connected and engaged" Stephanie MacLaren VP community programs said in a media release. "HHHS wants to be the place they call. We have reached out for example to Community Paramedicine local grocery stores and pharmacies in an effort to support any additional volume or extraneous demands they may face with more and more members of our community practising self-isolation or social distancing."

CSS wants to hear from community members about what they need. "What we most want the community to know right now is that no one is alone in this – we are here to help" MacLaren said.

Community members can call 705-457-2941 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday or email infocc@hhhs.ca.
