Several reports published earlier this month are announcing Cody Hodgson’s retirement from the National Hockey League.

This comes after his last two seasons in the NHL where Hodgson scored 13 points in 78 games for the Buffalo Sabres and then most recently eight points in 39 games for the Nashville Predators.

According to the NHL website he was not claimed after the Predators placed him on waivers early this year. He scored 64 goals and 142 points in 328 NHL games for the Vancouver Canucks the Sabres and the Predators.

Requests for an interview with Hodgson through his father did not elicit a response from the 26-year-old with family ties to Haliburton.

The reports said the Predators have hired Hodgson to help coach young hockey players in its youth hockey program.

Hodgson who was selected by the Canucks 10th overall in the 2008 draft was the most outstanding player of the year in the Ontario Hockey League and the Canadian Hockey League’s player of the year in 2008-2009.
