Call for nominations: Canada 150 Awards

Local MP Jamie Schmale is asking fornominations of those who should be recognized for their contributionsto the riding for Canada 150 Awards.

These awards will be given out in Julyfrom individuals in 15 categories that encompass most sectors of thecommunity.

Schmale said in a press release thatthe awards were created despite the federal government choosing notto do its own awards corresponding with Confederation which he saidhas happened in 1867 1927 1967 and 1992.

“Unfortunately the Liberal governmentdecided not to issue a commemorative medal in 2017 to mark Canada's150 th however I believe this is an important traditionthat I felt should be continued” he said in the release.

Nominations are open to all residentsof Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock and are due by June 9. You canfind the application form at jamieschmale.ca or pick one up at theconstituency office in Lindsay (68 McLaughlin Rd.). Applicationsrequire at least two reference letters and a sponsor.
