Buy In and Win contest underway in Haliburton

For the fourth year in a row local shoppers will have a chance to “Buy In and Win” courtesy of the Haliburton downtown BIA’s annual contest.

According to BIA administrator Cindy Campbell local shoppers can take part in the contest by filling out a ballot at any of the 118 member businesses in downtown Haliburton.

One of the reasons people find the Buy In and Win contest so exciting she said is because participants can enter as many ballots as they like. All shoppers need to do to participate said Campbell is simply pick up a ballot and deposit it in the ballot box at the store where they make their purchase.

“The more they shop in town the more chances they have at winning” she said.

This year’s winner will have the choice of a vacation for two in Puerta Vallarta Mexico or $1000 cash. “Last year’s winner decided to take the trip to the sunny south and had a fabulous vacation” Campbell said. The contest opened on Nov. 20 and will continue until noon on Dec. 22 when the draw will take place live on Moose FM 93.5. Campbell explained that the contest was originally created to give back to community members who patronize local businesses however it was also intended to help give local businesses a boost during the holiday season.

“It’s important to shop locally because our local retailers and business people are the sponsors of our local activities – the theatre hockey teams all the events that happen in the community” said Campbell.

“We generally will go to our own people for donations. They give back so it is important that we give back. If we support our local businesses then they can support us.”

New this year participating businesses will also have a chance to win a prize. Campbell said the business where the winning ballot is deposited will receive a prize for the owners and staff. She sees the contest as an embodiment of Haliburton’s community spirit. Having lived in a larger city before she moved to Haliburton Campbell believes that it is this generosity that makes the community such a special place to call home.

“It’s such a tight-knit community that everybody looks forward to seeing who wins” she said.

“It’s a small community so chances are everyone is going to know who wins and want to congratulate them. People seem to rally around this contest every year and it is a lot of fun.”
