Hello Haliburton! It is my great pleasure to serve as your Haliburton Village BIA administrator. With Gail Stelter “retiring” I know that I have big shoes to fill. Gail’s energy enthusiasm and dedication to making Haliburton Village a better place for everyone is truly appreciated. Thank you Gail – we all look forward to seeing you around and enjoying the many events and projects that you continue to involve yourself with.
Some have asked “what is a BIA and what does it do?” BIA is the short form for Business Improvement Area. The BIA is a geographical area. All businesses – professional services retail and hospitality – in the geographical area are members. Each year the BIA members elect a volunteer-based board of management. These volunteers meet monthly to plan events and advocate for their membership on local issues. Thank you to the members of the board of management for their service in making the Haliburton Village BIA the dynamic place that it is.
Starting later in November the BIA WIN – Buy In And Win Contest is back for a second year. BIA WIN features a hot sunshine destination arranged by Transat Travel as the grand prize. Stay tuned to find out what great destination will be selected. Participating businesses will have ballot boxes. Please be sure to fill in a ballot the draw will take place the Friday before Christmas.
There is nothing like the first snow fall to put people in the holiday spirit. And the Santa Claus Parade held in partnership between the Haliburton Village BIA and the Haliburton and District Lions Club really kicks off the holiday season. Please join in the fun on Friday Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. with the Christmas tree lighting and sing along with Gord Kidd in front of the Village Barn. The Santa Claus Parade will commence at 6:30 p.m. Please contact Jim Frost at 457-4031 or frostdownhome@bellnet.ca if you would like to enter a float or group or participate in the parade. Everyone is welcome!
After the Santa Claus Parade please join us for Winter Warm Up at the Legion for a delicious pasta meal (nominal cost). There will be a children’s craft area and gifts for all children. Gord Kidd and his band will also be providing entertainment. Bring the whole family and enjoy a great evening together: the official tree lighting Santa Claus Parade and Winter Warm Up.
Grateful thanks to Leslie and David Chumbley from West Guilford for donating the Christmas tree and to Lyle Stamp and the local fire department for setting up the Christmas tree for everyone to enjoy!
The Rails End Gallery will be the place to be on Saturday Nov. 26 from noon to 2 p.m. for Santa Day hosted by the Haliburton and District Lions Club. All children visiting Santa Claus will receive a goodie bag. Thank you to Jim Frost and the Haliburton and District Lions Club for their continued support and partnership in hosting these community events.
Please bring the whole family and be a part of the Haliburton Village BIA Holiday Season kick-off fun on Nov. 25 and 26. We look forward to seeing you!
