Current Highlands East Mayor Dave Burton is seeking reelection. The longtime Highlands East mayor filed his nomination papers for reelection to the top seat last week.

Burton has been mayor (a position that was previously called reeve) of Highlands East for the past 12 years and prior to living in this area served for six years on Oro-Medonte council.

“I feel we’ve done some really really good things in the municipality and I’m looking forward to doing more” he said. “There’s lots more to do. I just feel we have so much to do out here.”

Burton said he has a commitment from a doctor to come to the area in 2019 and that he hasn’t given up on bringing a financial institution to the area.

He said he’s also adamant about maintaining and improving the infrastructure in the area protecting the lakes and rivers and improving internet and cell service. He sits on the Eastern Ontario Regional Network board of directors the Ontario Good Roads Association and is a Source Water Protection representative.

“I enjoy it; I’m committed to it” he said of his position on council. “I’ve felt I’ve been very available and approachable to people and I do have the experience. I’ve gained a great network of people over the years who I can call on as well.”

Cindy Baumhour has filed for the position of Ward 3 councillor representing Harcourt on Dysart council.

“I’ve always been interested in municipal governing” said Baumhour. “I figured now’s the time to get my name in there and go for the gusto.”

Baumhour has been active in the community as an organizer and currently sits on the Harcourt Community Centre board.
